Day 1. Traveling in our specially built Volvo all terrain bus, we cross over two high Andean passes then make a breathtaking 12,000 ft, descent into the upper Madre de Dios River drainage. We overnight at the comfortable Cock-of-the-Rock Lodge in the orchid laden Cloud Forest. This is a spectacular journey past cascading waterfalls, traditional Andean communities and multicolored birds . We dine to the sounds of Quetzals, Trogons and Gray-breasted Wood-wrens. Night at . Day 2. Pre breakfast walk to a nearby spot in the Cloud Forest where the strange and beautiful Cocks-of-the-Rock display at dawn. This is a wonderful sight as up to 25 bright red-orange males dance and sing attempting to attract the favors of the duller, burgundy colored females. After visiting this lek we return to the Lodge for a leisurely breakfast and continue in our all terrain bus to the Madre de Dios River Motorized canoes carry us down through small rapids, passed cloud covered bluffs alive with birds. We spend the night in a small riverside lodge near a family of Tamarin Monkeys.

Day 3. Now heading up the Manu river, we see a profusion of birds and wildlife. Macaws and parrots are common, a family of Howler monkeys chatters noisily as we glide past. A Capybara, the world's largest rodent bounds away from the shore. Following a narrow path we leave the canoes for an afternoon hike to the nights campsite.

Day 4. From our Safari camp, we explore the surrounding forest and drift across an oxbow lake on a raft designed for viewing and photography. A night hike offers the possibility of viewing Black Caiman or a fleeing Jaguar.

Day 5. Drifting down river, we stop to explore interesting beaches and another oxbow lake, home of a family of Giant Otters. We camp near the junction of the Madre de Dios River.

Day 6. We travel on down river to the small air stip at Boca Manu. Our chartered small plane returns us to Cusco
